The importance of ensuring that the body obtains sufficient EFAs has been recognised by the American Heart Association which recommends two to four grams of EFAs per day as a supplement for those who have elevated triglycerides (blood fats). The “White House” has urged the Department of Health and Human Services to revise the nation's dietary guidelines "to include new information that Omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of heart disease" .
