TRAVEL AND PREGNANCY
Many of the same rules apply as with all travel, such as
avoiding jetlag, vaccinations, reducing the risk of DVT and
watching diet and sun exposure.
Depending on the extent of the pregnancy the exposure to
some of these risks is increased and you may well suffer more
discomfort.
General advice for pregnant women is to wear loose clothing
especially on aeroplanes, this makes manoeuvring easier, will
allow for swelling which often occurs in flight. Equally important
is to avoid dehydration, do not drink alcohol and drink water
regularly as the reduced atmospheric pressure encountered
in flight increases dehydration.
Note that some airlines will not allow you to fly after 34
weeks. You should ensure that your return flight is within
the period dictated by the airline. We suggest you check with
the airline prior to travel. If you are on any medication
we also suggest you discuss your condition and medication
with your doctor prior to travel.
